Hatch Duo is an award-winning industrial design and engineering studio based in Silicon Valley. We collaborate with ambitious founders and emerging companies to create thoughtful, high-impact hardware products across robotics, wearables, medtech, IoT, sports tech, and more.
Our team is growing, and we are looking to add local team members who want to help build the creative foundation of our new San Jose studio. We move fast, work hands-on, and design with real-world execution in mind.
Who We Are Looking For
We’re seeking a Mid-Level Industrial Designer (3–5 years experience) with strong fundamentals, excellent visual communication skills, and the drive to grow in a multidisciplinary, high-craft environment.
You are someone who:
- has strong form development and aesthetic sensitivity
- sketches, iterates, and prototypes with confidence
- collaborates well with engineering and cross-functional teams

- wants to contribute to the culture and energy of our new Bay Area studio
You will work closely with senior designers, engineers, and Hatch Duo’s founder, Jonathan Thai.
Local candidates only OR candidates willing to relocate to the Bay Area.

What You’ll Do
- Create concept sketches, storyboards, form explorations, and early visualizations
- Build and refine CAD and surfacing models (Rhino, SolidWorks, Alias, etc.)
- Produce compelling renderings, CMF studies, and visual storytelling materials
- Support prototyping, mock-ups, and hands-on model validation
- Collaborate closely with ME, EE/Firmware, UX/Human Factors, and design leadership
- Contribute to design execution across DFMA, EVT, DVT, PVT
- Participate in client and internal design reviews
- Help shape the creative voice, visual culture, and workflow of the San Jose studio
Required Qualifications
- 3–5 years of professional industrial design experience
- B.S. or BFA in Industrial Design (or equivalent/higher)
- Strong sketching and form development skills
- Proficiency in CAD tools (Rhino, SolidWorks, Alias, or similar)
- High-quality rendering and visualization abilities
- Understanding of materials, prototyping, and manufacturing
- Proficiency with AI design tools such as Vizcom, Mooed.ai, Midjourney
- Strong communication and presentation abilities
- Legally authorized to work in the U.S. (no sponsorship available)
- Local to the Bay Area or willing to relocate for on-site work
Preferred Qualifications
- Design consultancy experience preferred
- Exposure to DFMA and hardware development cycles (EVT/DVT/PVT)
- Experience in robotics, wearables, medtech, IoT
- Engagement in design community events
- Desire to grow into more senior creative responsibilities
