Who We Are Looking For
We’re seeking a Senior Industrial Designer who is ready to take on significant creative ownership and help elevate Hatch Duo’s design practice.
This role is ideal for mid to senior-level designers with strong consultancy or equivalent experience — individuals who have shipped real products, think holistically about design, and are ready to lead by example. This position is set to be a local leadership growth track- to eventually grow into Creative Director of our San Jose Studio.

You will work directly with Hatch Duo’s founder, Jonathan Thai, on design direction, studio culture, and client-facing initiatives.

What You’ll Do
- Lead industrial design execution from concept through refined deliverables
- Develop strong form languages, CMF direction, and compelling visual storytelling
- Produce sketch explorations, storyboards, CAD models, renderings, and prototypes
- Collaborate closely with Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering/Firmware, UX/Human Factors, and the founding team
- Carry design intent through DFMA, EVT, DVT, PVT, and into production
- Present to clients with professionalism and confidence
- Mentor junior designers and interns
- Represent Hatch Duo in local Bay Area design community events and conversations
- Help shape the creative voice and culture of our San Jose studio
Required Qualifications
- B.S. or BFA in Industrial Design (or equivalent/higher degree)
- 5–10 years of industrial design experience
- Proven ability to design and ship real hardware products
- Strong CAD surfacing and modeling proficiency (Rhino, SolidWorks, Alias, etc.)
- Excellent sketching, visualization, and presentation skills
- Deep understanding of materials, manufacturing, prototyping, and production
- Experience with DFMA & hardware development cycles (EVT, DVT, PVT)
- Proficiency with AI design tools such as Vizcom, Mooed.ai, Midjourney
- Strong communication and client-facing presentation abilities
- Comfortable working closely with engineering and cross-disciplinary teams
- Must live within commuting distance of our San Jose studio
Preferred Qualifications
- Design consultancy experience preferred
- Startup or early-stage hardware experience
- Participation in design community events, talks, or thought leadership
- Interest in growing into expanded creative leadership roles
