We are on a journey of continuous growth – now looking for our next star – a passionate CPV CAD Designer & CAD Administrator within our Commercial and Passenger Vehicle (CPV) division. This position reports to Director of Engineering CPV and will work in the Troy, MI location.
As a CPV CAD Designer & CAD Administrator in the CPV team, you will be supporting automotive/commercial vehicle and agricultural vehicle projects.?This role supports our Project Teams with creating Engineering data (3D/2D) of mechanical components and assemblies and manages design data in Dometic’s and customer PDM systems. It also administers our Engineering CAD tools / system (NX, CATIA, Teamcenter). A suitable candidate must be able to multitask and possess the proven ability to bring tasks independently to a successful closure.
General Responsibilities
- Responsible for the CAD design of new products as well as updating designs and implementing changes on existing products under direction of the Product / Lead Engineer.
- Create and update 3D models, component, and assembly drawings (2D).
- Perform stack up and tolerance analysis to ensure a robust design and product manufacturability.
- Generate Engineering documentation and ensure its quality and thoroughness.
- Support Project Team with developing component and material specifications and datasheets.
- Transfer and release data to/within Dometic PDM/PLM systems and to/within customer (Teamcenter) PDM systems.
- Support tool and fixture development and builds, evaluate off tool parts and supports the investigation of component issues that are related to tool problems.
- Represent Dometic Engineering in meetings with customers, suppliers and external service providers to provide technical expertise and problem resolution.
- Design and support the fabrication of prototypes, evaluate prototypes and support problem resolution related to prototyping.
- Administer / maintain Dometic’s shared CAD system (NX, CATIA, SolidWorks license server) with customer and Dometic Engineering Teams.
- Work with IT and external service providers to establish and maintain safe data connections to customer PDM systems.
- Grow professional and technical knowledge by attending training, workshops, reviewing professional publications, establishing personal networks, etc.
- May travel domestically as needed.
- Occasionally perform other duties as assigned.
Requirements:
The ideal candidate for this role will bring demonstrated success in XXX. Additionally, they will have the following desired skills and characteristics:
- Associate’s degree in CAD, Engineering Technology or equivalent with equivalent professional experience will also be considered
- 5+ years related professional experience
- Excellent documentation, verbal, and written communication skills
- Solid Works, CATIA, NX 3D modeling and 2D drawing experience; certification preferred
- Teamcenter experience (GM, Stellantis, Ford, …) preferred
- MFA, FEA and CFD experience beneficial
- Experience with GD&T and key characteristics definition
- Experience with automotive OEM component integration guidelines and expectations (tolerances, clearances, …)
- Experience with injection molding, designing parts for injection molding and tooling
- Experience with prototyping methods
- Must be self-directed and able to manage multiple priorities simultaneously with a sense of urgency
- Detail oriented with results driven analytical and problem-solving skills
- Strong hands-on mechanical and fabrication skills is a plus
- Ability to excel in a team environment
