Position Overview: The Industrial Designer will collaborate closely with the lead industrial designer to develop a cutting-edge diagnostic healthtech product, with the potential to expand into a broader product line. This role requires a deep understanding of design details, including user experience, CMF (color, material, finish), and user interaction throughout the product journey. You will work alongside mechanical and electronic engineers to ensure that the design aesthetics complement the product’s form and function, benchmarking against competitors to maintain a competitive edge.
Key Responsibilities:
- Product Development: Collaborate daily with the lead industrial designer on the development of a diagnostic healthtech product, with future opportunities to expand into other product lines.
- Design Detailing: Focus on the intricate design details, including physical and digital user experience, CMF, and user interaction throughout the product lifecycle.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with mechanical and electronic engineers to establish and refine design aesthetics, ensuring a balance between form and function while benchmarking against competitors.
- Smart Home Integration: Leverage knowledge of smart home technologies to anticipate and address potential design challenges.
- Prototyping: Manage the preparation and submission of design models for 3D printing, ensuring accuracy and quality in prototypes.
- Market Engagement: Potentially participate in trade shows and collaborate with marketing teams as the product line evolves.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 3-5 years of experience in industrial design, ideally within corporate or design firm settings. High junior to mid-level experience is preferred.
- Portfolio: A strong portfolio that demonstrates completed projects with a focus on both form and function. The portfolio should showcase the design process, including research, surface and form development, and a clear narrative on product use, with videos or animations preferred.
- Skills: Proficiency in design process, research, and surface and form development. Experience with electronic products, exploded views, and internal component layouts is essential.
- Technical Tools: Expertise in CAD software used in industrial design (e.g., Rhino, SolidWorks, Fusion, Alias), rendering tools like KeyShot, and the Adobe Suite.
- Design Focus: Ability to create inspiring, beautiful designs that balance creativity with engineering requirements.
- Personality: Energetic, tenacious, extroverted, persuasive, and patient, with a strong ability to collaborate and influence others.
- Travel: Willingness to travel both domestically and internationally as needed.
Nice to Haves:
- Experience with After Effects and animation work.
