Position Summary
The Lead Industrial Designer has an eye for great form and finish and function, understands the “meaning” of these attributes to affect user perceptions of products and brands, and be an effective translator to business colleagues. The Lead Industrial Designer participates, leads, and extracts insights from in-field user research and stays current on key trends as they relate to consumer technology products and kitchen trends and translates them into branded, user centered, design solutions.
Primary Responsibilities
- Demonstrate appropriate industrial design leadership to define the Visual and Experience design direction for Instant Pot Brand.
- Work cross-functionally on new product development initiatives with a key focus on brand design and user experience leadership
- Be a primary design resource for internal partners to define and execute design projects for new products, accessories, and features
- Work with Engineering and Manufacturing to optimize new products for production and maintain design intent for both internally and externally designed products
- Create design briefs and work with selected design consulting partners and internal cross-functional teams to deliver the Company’s objectives and experience brand languages
- Collaborate with outside resources on research projects and take key insights from research and action them into design solutions
- Deliver design files using 3D software and advanced renderings/animations to clearly communicate the design intent satisfying user, business (brand and cost), and technical requirements
- Participate in planning projects, resources and deliverables, budget tracking and customer material presentation planning
- Provide timely and effective presentations, reports, and communications to all levels of management
Qualifications
- Bachelors Degree in Industrial Design, Masters preferred
- 7-10 years relevant experience
- Broad knowledge and experience with high volume manufacturing materials & processes, and the design of products for cost-effective production.
- Knowledge of platform architecture, and mechanical detailing of plastics, glass, ceramics, and soft goods.
- Broad knowledge of a wide range of prototyping methods including an understanding of when to use each method and an eagerness to use rough mockups for quick design learning.
- Interest and aptitude for incorporating best practices in AI throughout the design process.
- Expert in 3D CAD (SolidWorks, Rhino or other known 3D program) plus ability to deliver high fidelity 3D renderings and animations using Keyshot or equivalent.
- Expert in Adobe Creative Suite and MS Office Suite.
