Commercial and Industrial Designer
Summary
Develops new products from (1) concept to (2) prototyping to (3) mass manufacturing through the delivery of both technical drawing packages and physical prototypes for testing. Applies user experience principles to designs, ensuring products meet client requirements, are user-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing. Products should also be designed for manufacturability with a streamlined and efficient process. Candidate must have strong knowledge and previous experience with manufacturing processes, including injection molding, CNC, CAD design, and 3D printing. Electrical engineering experience is a plus!
Duties and Responsibilities
- Uses conceptual design and 3D CAD modeling to design products that meet the objective of the project proposal.
- Uses Wacom tablet and free-hand sketching methods for portraying design alternatives to clients.
- Performs design validation testing of prototypes and off-tool samples, proposing design modifications to guarantee manufacturing efficiency and compliance with technical specifications.
- Specifies tolerances, materials, manufacturing processes, heat treatment, coatings, and bill of materials (BOM).
- Performs Design for Manufacturing (DFM) checks and redesigns for injection molding, CNC, 3D printing, and other manufacturing processes.
- Writes documentation defining product performance requirements and manufacturing/ assembly outline to ensure a high level of product quality.
- Oversees technicians during product assembly, offering troubleshooting and analysis
- Performs field testing, translating observations from field research into proposals.
- Researches competing & related products and technologies.
- Works with sourcing specialists, providing accurate information for smooth purchasing and ensuring product requirements are met.
- Communicates with clients directly or indirectly about project-related items, submitting weekly updates on projects.
- Ensures internal and external customers are up to date on project status and deadlines.
- Perform quality checks on customer orders.

Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree (or higher) in Mechanical Engineering (or related)
- Proficient with Injection Molding
- Proficient with Solidworks, AutoCAD, or similar
- CNC machining and 3D printing experience
- Experience with Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
- 3D Design and Drafting experience
- At least 4 years of work experience that is directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified
- Experience with consumer products and user experience
- Experience with manufacturing
- Some travel is required between Orlando and Palm Bay to cooperate with other engineers.
Working Environment
- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
- May require exposure to chemicals due to prototyping materials such as epoxy and synthetic clay.
Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $60,000.00 - $80,000.00 per year
