THE ROLE
We are seeking a creative and detail-oriented
Industrial Design Engineer to join our Shop-Vac USA team. This role blends product design with engineering problem-solving to deliver innovative, durable, and user-friendly products. The Industrial Design Engineer will focus on creating designs that balance form, function, and manufacturability, ensuring Shop-Vac continues to lead in the wet/dry vacuum category.
Key Responsibilities
- Design new Shop-Vac products and accessories with a focus on user experience, ergonomics, and visual appeal.
- Create detailed CAD models, 3D renderings, and technical drawings.
- Develop prototypes and collaborate in testing to validate performance, durability, and safety.
- Work with R&D, manufacturing, and sourcing teams to ensure designs are production-ready and cost-effective.
- Translate customer needs and market research into innovative design solutions.
- Benchmark competitors and track industry trends to guide product styling and innovation.
- Integrate engineering constraints and material choices into product design for efficiency and reliability.
- Support continuous improvement by redesigning or refreshing existing products.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in industrial design, mechanical engineering, product design engineering, or related field.
- 3–5 years of experience in industrial design, consumer product development, or engineering design role.
- Strong proficiency in CAD and 3D modeling software (SolidWorks, Creo, Rhino, or equivalent).
- Hands-on experience with prototyping, rendering, and product visualization.
- Knowledge of plastics (injection/blow molding), sheet metal, and mass-production processes.
- Strong creative portfolio showcasing product design work.
- Excellent problem-solving skills with the ability to merge design vision and engineering feasibility.
- Familiarity with DFMA (Design for Manufacture & Assembly) and lean product development practices preferred.
