Department Overview
The Design and Customer Experience (DCX) team is a cross-functional group focused on Human Centered Design and Research that fuels the next generation of experiences and solutions for our mission-critical customers and users. The team consists of Industrial Design, UI/UX, Service Designers, and Researchers who design for diverse and challenging Professional-grade markets. Police, Fire, and Commercial user groups all have very distinct and tangible design problems; whether it’s the dirt, grime, and high noise of industrial environments, gloves and turnout gear for fire, or managing intense cognitive loads during police action. Our team is exploring, testing, and designing for emerging technologies and integrations that will define the next generation of commercial and public solutions. Your Creative Tool Kit:
Must hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited industrial design program. A Masters degree is a plus. A senior Industrial Designer is an established and productive professional who works independently and with general supervision. This position requires exceptional interpersonal skills and the capability to collaborate in a team-focused environment. Collaboration and communication skills are critical to communicating designs and outcomes with other leaders and decision-makers in a cross-discipline environment. An ability to appreciate and work with human factors and research to define marketing and user requirements. Sensitivity to culture and end users should complement a strong core knowledge of design. Problems faced are challenging and varied, this role requires the ability to influence others, establishing and defending user-driven and principle-based designs across multiple parallel projects. A senior designer is expected to analyze the problem to uncover the "real" issues about users, context, and environment. Judge concept effectiveness by linking to use cases, user requirements, and research data. Choose the right plan of action based on available information, timing, and resources.
Work Description And Skills
- Integrate effectively into a multidisciplinary group that includes cognitive and behavioral scientists, interaction designers, and human factors engineers and deliver to strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Uncover problems and develop them into ideas that become design solutions grounded by end-user requirements providing a solid value proposition.
- Collaborate with marketing and engineering to ensure successful implementation of industrial designs.
- Understand and communicate a user journey or product value proposition through various media, storyboards, animations, and videos.
- Quickly identify and create appropriate design concepts with follow-through to production.
- Create world-class hardware designs in a fast-paced environment.
- Follow up with manufacturing and production processes as required.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience with Industrial Design Hardware
- Portfolio highlighting products that have been shipped.
Tech Skills
- Strong 2-D visualization skills are necessary such as sketching, Illustrator, and Photoshop software.
- A solid expertise in at least one 3-D CAD program, such as Solid Works, Pro E Rhino, or other similar tools is required.
- Proficiency in video and animation (Adobe After Effects or similar) for storytelling of user experience or product attributes.

Target Base Salary Range
$89,300.00 - $178,600.00
Consistent with Motorola Solutions values and applicable law, we provide the following information to promote pay transparency and equity. Pay within this range varies and depends on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. The actual offer will be based on the individual candidate.
